A tragic incident occurred last Wednesday in Walnut Park West, where a woman lost her life, and a man suffered injuries following a dog attack in their backyard. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the 5900 block of Theodore shortly before 11:45 p.m., after receiving calls from the ShotSpotter system and subsequent requests for police assistance. Upon their arrival, officers found 62-year-old Gladys Anthony severely injured and 73-year-old man, who was fending off three dogs with a broom, and had attempted to distract the dogs by firing shots.

The officers managed to divert the dogs' focus using pepper spray, which prompted the animals to flee the scene. They were able to move Anthony inside the home to provide emergency aid and apply tourniquets, awaiting the arrival of EMS. Although EMS quickly transported her to the hospital for treatment, Anderson tragically succumbed to her injuries while in surgery, according to a statement obtained by St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The man, whose identity was withheld, suffered several bites and chose to seek medical attention later on.

During the subsequent neighborhood canvass, officers located the dogs returning to what was discovered to be their residence. The dogs' owner, a 54-year-old man, is reportedly cooperating with police as part of the investigation. The City’s Animal Control Division has since seized the dogs.
