
Thirteen men from Houston have been charged with operating a robbery and drug conspiracy. The defendants face charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and drug distribution, with their involvement in the murder of two individuals in July 2023 also revealed during recent legal proceedings, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office
Derrick Dewayne Butler, Travon Maxwell, and Emmanuel Winnfield have been indicted and face up to 20 years for robbery conspiracy and life for drug distribution if convicted. Butler, Christian Xavier Rucker, and Jermar Ballard Jones also face murder charges, which could result in life sentences or the death penalty. The case is part of a federal investigation targeting gang violence and drug trafficking in Houston, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Federal authorities, including the FBI Houston Field Office, Houston Police Department, ATF, and Texas Department of Public Safety, have indicted individuals on charges of obstruction of justice, drug trafficking, and aggravated violence. The Justice Department stated that the case is being prosecuted by the Criminal Division’s Violent Crime and Racketeering Section and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas. Those indicted are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and sentencing, if convicted, will be determined by a federal judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
