A 13-year-old boy remains in critical condition following a shooting in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood of North St. Louis yesterday night. According to FOX 2 Now, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Goodfellow Place, a quiet street near Barrett Brothers Park. The identity of the assailant and the motivation behind the shooting are still under investigation by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The impact of gun violence on the community has been profound, St. Louis police provided a statement, "This is a horrible act of violence that has no place in our community," words that underscore the gravity of the event. The young boy's injury contributes to a troubling tally of eight children shot in the St. Louis metro area so far in 2025, an alarming figure reported by St. Louis Today, which also notes that five of these shootings have been fatal, and one involved a child under the age of 5.
As of Tuesday morning, no suspects have been taken into custody. The St. Louis police, speaking to the urgency and severity of the case, declared, "We will not tolerate it. We are in the early stages of investigation," a sentiment echoed in a post which was later referenced in an article by KSDK. They have yet to determine what led up to the unfortunate event.
St. Louis police spokesman Mitch McCoy indicated that the department will provide more details as they become available, in a post initially referred to by St. Louis Today. "This is a horrible act of violence that has no place in our community," McCoy said, further pleading with the public for any information that might aid the investigation. In the meantime, authorities are urging any witnesses or individuals with knowledge of the shooting, to contact Crimestoppers and help bring those responsible to justice.
