An 18-year-old man is now in stable condition after being shot in the chest in the Bronx's West Farms neighborhood. The incident occurred yesterday just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Marmion Avenue and East Tremont Avenue, according to ABC 7 New York. The young man was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was initially reported in critical condition.
Details surrounding the violence are still emerging, although surveillance footage obtained by News 12 shows a confrontation that led up to the gunshot. The video depicts a person in a red jacket, who after an apparent shoulder bump and verbal exchange with another individual, retrieves an object from an associate before firing the single shot. "I see that lots of times in the past too here, lots of shootings here, muggings, robberies, this is a very bad street," Juan Felix, an employee at a neighboring business, told News 12.
While the NYPD has not made any arrests, they have confirmed that they are in search of three men in relation to the shooting. The victim's identity has not been disclosed, but updates indicate that while he was critically injured, his condition has improved and he is expected to make a recovery.
Cecil Godbold, a resident of the area, conveyed his strategies for personal safety. "I try to stay close to the wall, or to the streets or even sometimes I walk in the streets to avoid contact with people," he told News 12. No further information about a motive for the shooting or the conditions leading up to the event has been provided. The NYPD continues its investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward.
