A 23-year-old woman was shot in the ribs Tuesday night outside a home near Hering and Adee avenues in the Bronx, and the three men suspected in the attack are still on the run. Police sources say she was rushed to a hospital and is expected to survive.
According to News 12 Bronx, three men dressed in black clothing and ski masks were seen fleeing the area. Investigators are now searching for the group, and as of Wednesday, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. The NYPD's 49th Precinct is headquartered at 2121 Eastchester Road and patrols a stretch of the northeastern Bronx that includes Pelham Parkway, Pelham Gardens, Allerton, Morris Park, Van Nest, and Eastchester Gardens, according to the NYPD.

The tip line is part of the NYPD Crime Stoppers program, which is administered and funded by the non-profit New York City Police Foundation and offers cash rewards of up to $3,500 for confidential tips that lead to an arrest and indictment, per the New York City Police Foundation.
A Pattern of Firearm Incidents in the 49th Precinct
This is not the first gun violence the precinct has had to contend with in recent months. Earlier in August, 49th Precinct officers investigated a fatal shooting near Bronx Park East arising from a dispute over a scratched motorcycle that killed Trojan Hart, as Hoodline previously reported. That same month, a 24-year-old Williamsbridge man was shot six times and four men were sought, while in June, gunfire broke out near Barker Avenue in Allerton without any reported injuries.
The precinct has also seen major gun cases reach resolution. In August 2025, the Bronx District Attorney's office announced a seven-year prison sentence, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.
Local Violence Against a Backdrop of Record Citywide Lows
The Tuesday night shooting comes amid a broader decline in New York City gun violence. Localized spikes continue to hit specific Bronx neighborhoods.
NYPD leadership has credited the citywide decline to precision policing initiatives that deploy up to 3,800 officers per night across 72 targeted micro-zones in 40 key precincts, according to Police1. Even so, Tuesday's shooting shows how individual Bronx blocks can still see sudden violence despite the broader trend.
Potential Charges If Suspects Are Found
If the three men are identified and captured, they could face charges. Under New York Penal Law § 120.10, prosecutors could assess the evidence in determining whether assault charges are appropriate. Any charges would depend on the evidence.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. Police believed the shooters were aiming for the victim's brother, suggesting she was not the intended target. Investigators continue to search for the three suspects, and no arrests had been announced as of Wednesday.
