University of Houston has seen a spate of criminal activity this month with scooter theft topping the incident list. 28-year-old Steven Simon has been fingered as the suspect behind two scooter robberies on the university campus, as Click2Houston reported. Simon was arrested and is currently facing charges related to these events. The first incident, taking place on February 4 at the Metro platform near the Welcome Center Garage, was soon followed by a second just a day after, at the Welcome Center Parking Garage.

According to details shared by UH police, after being connected to the theft on February 4, Simon was apprehended and hit with a felony robbery charge. They successfully linked Simon to the second robbery and subsequent assault on February 5, leading to an additional theft charge the following Friday, as was reported by ABC13. Currently, Simon remains in custody, as both outlets confirm.

University Police have not limited their actions to arrests alone, outlined in their multi-pronged strategy to bolster campus safety. An increased police presence has been noted, alongside enhanced security monitoring that focuses particularly on parking lots and high-traffic zones. "Our efforts will continue to be focused on providing a safe learning and working environment for our entire community. Please stay vigilant, report any suspicious activity to UHPD at (713) 743-3333, and utilize campus safety resources," the department emphasized in a statement obtained by Click2Houston.
