An Abingdon man has been arrested and charged in connection with a severe hit-and-run that occurred on Sunday in Harford County. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Lebogang-Ram Motshabi, was released the following Wednesday on a $5,000 bond, WMAR 2 News reported.

The victim, 21-year-old Amaya Marie Martise, was hit by a car while returning from a local Walmart. She was not found until roughly 15 hours later, on Monday morning, when a passerby discovered her severely injured and lying in a ditch. The accident is believed to have occurred near S. Tollgate Road and Aiken Terrace, and the sheriff's office has to request assistance from anyone who may possess additional information urgently.

According to the Daily Voice, deputies and investigators determined that the crash's impact pushed Martise off the road. Subsequently, a deputy from the Traffic Unit located a damaged vehicle on Logan Circle that matched evidence from the crash site, leading to Motshabi's arrest.

Motshabi is currently facing charges that include failing to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury, driving without a license, and operating an uninsured vehicle. Martise remains hospitalized in serious condition, and the Harford County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident. Community members with any pertinent information are encouraged to come forward and contact Corporal Shane Fraser of the Special Operations Division, Traffic Unit, at 443-409-3511.
