A bomb threat was reported at the Brazoria County Courthouse in downtown Angleton early Thursday morning at 8:41 a.m., leading to an evacuation of the courthouse and nearby areas. The evacuation zone was expanded to a two-mile radius, and authorities, including the FBI, Texas DPS, and the Department of Energy, are conducting searches with dogs and drones. The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office is prioritizing the safety of employees and the public as they ensure the area is clear of threats, according to Click2Houston

Several roads in downtown Angleton have been closed for safety measures, causing disruptions. The affected roads include Live Oak & Velasco, Magnolia (between Arcola & Velasco), Cedar & Arcola, and others near the courthouse, as reported by Click2Houston

Angleton ISD has implemented "The “secure” mode is one of the district’s emergency response protocols" at Central Elementary, which is in the evacuation area. This protocol keeps students and staff inside, locks doors, and prevents outsiders from entering. No incidents have been reported at the school. The nature of the threat is not yet known, and authorities are working to resolve the situation. Attorney Joseph Gutheinz, who was evacuated from the courthouse, called the situation "serious" in an interview. Community members are advised to avoid the evacuation zone and wait for further updates, as stated by KHOU 11.
