Yesterday in Antioch, a tense situation unfolded when a man reportedly shot at a woman and later resisted arrest before being taken into custody, all in the presence of sleeping children. The Antioch Police Department responded to a call in the 3000 Block of Ash Street around 3:51 a.m. after a 30-year-old woman reported that shots were fired at her by Melvin Savoy, another 30-year-old. The woman, who is fortunately unharmed, was able to flee. According to the Antioch Police press release, dispatch received additional calls about gunfire in the area.
Arriving officers were able to locate the victim in the vicinity and set up a perimeter. After refusing to comply with police directives, Savoy remained inside the house, which was occupied by several individuals, including four children. The standoff was short-lived, with Savoy finally emerging from the home, even though he initially refused officers' orders. It was through de-escalation tactics that the incident was resolved peacefully, as detailed by the Antioch Police Department.
Once Savoy was in custody, officers inspected the residence, ensuring that all inside, such as the four children, were without harm. Savoy has since been transported to the Martinez Detention Facility, facing multiple charges, including Assault with a Firearm on a Person, Domestic Battery, Resisting Arrest, and several firearms and ammunition possession violations.
