The culinary landscape of television is getting a sumptuous addition with National Geographic's new series, "No Taste Like Home With Antoni Porowski." Premiering on February 23, the six-part docuseries takes a dive into the gastronomic histories of various celebrities guided by the "Queer Eye" food expert, Antoni Porowski. According to a report by ABC7NY, Porowski and his celebrity guests will explore cherished family recipes, unearthing the rich stories and cultural heritages that define them.
At the Tribeca red carpet event on Tuesday night, Porowski recounted to ABC7NY the moment when Awkwafina reconnected with her late mother’s kelp soup recipe. Following her to South Korea, the experience unfolded into one of raw emotion, "This was a smell that she remembered from childhood that her mom made for her before she passed away," Porowski shared, "We all completely lost our minds, we were all very emotional and it was just a beautiful, touching moment... hats off to her for being so vulnerable with us and trusting us with the process." Evidently, food goes beyond sustenance in "No Taste Like Home," touching chords of memory and legacy.
Porowski's project is an extravaganza of star power and sentimental journeys as highlighted by Bizcommunity's article. The series will feature a lineup including Awkwafina, Henry Golding, James Marsden, Florence Pugh, Issa Rae, and Justin Theroux, with each episode being a stand-alone odyssey into the ancestral roots of each celebrity. Reflecting on the essence of the project, Porowski explained, "It’s a beautiful adventure to discover our past through the great connector that is food," affirming the sentiment that the series is as much about personal identity as it is about culinary exploration.
Embarking on this flavorful journey, the celebrities join Porowski in exploring often untold family lore. In Italy, Justin Theroux embarks on a quest for pasta, emphasizing the hands-on nature of heritage by eating the dough while rolling. The excitement of connecting with one's roots is both immersive and, at times, belly-filling. Each episode concludes with a familial meal, highlighting culture and personal revelations while strengthening bonds across time and geography.
Produced by Studio Ramsay Global, the new series adds to National Geographic's repertoire of compelling food narratives. In tandem with Gordon Ramsay's "Uncharted," "No Taste Like Home" aims to blend the deeply personal with the expansively global, providing viewers with not only a feast for the eyes but also a banquet for the soul. With episodes available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu a day after their TV debut, food aficionados and fans of heartfelt storytelling have a table reserved in front of their screens.
