In their ongoing efforts to tackle the pervasive issue of child abuse, Arapahoe County's child abuse prevention coalition, Not One More Child, has joined forces with Aurora’s Standing Against Violence Every Day (SAVE) organization. This collaboration aims to confront the underlying causes of violence in households, providing support and resources to those at higher risk for violent behavior such as members involved in gangs or experiencing domestic strife.
As reported by Arapahoe County, SAVE has been instrumental in partnering with law enforcement and other community entities to pinpoint and interrupt early indicators of abuse. By sending tailored notifications to high-risk individuals, the program goes beyond simple surveillance and intervenes with practical assistance in the form of job training, stable housing offers, and addiction counseling. This strategic and focused deterrence model has already seen successful application in over 60 cities, including prominent urban centers like Chicago, Los Angeles, and Nashville, marking Aurora as the first in Colorado to adopt such measures.
Reflecting the principles of the Two-Generation (2Gen) approach adopted by Arapahoe County, SAVE strives to simultaneously address the needs of children and their parents, fostering an intergenerational path towards lasting economic security. According to the coalition's insights, 2Gen endeavors to ensure families receive comprehensive support, ranging from educational and workforce training to essential social services like parenting classes and healthcare, to establish a sustainable foundation for family well-being and prosperity that can be passed down through generations.
