A recent traffic incident has sparked concern among local law enforcement and the community at large. According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Mason of the Traffic Safety Unit witnessed a severe case of speeding on Sunday. A 17-year-old driver was caught traveling at 86 mph in a 40 mph zone at the intersection of E. Hamden Ave. and S. Himalaya St. This young driver, in possession of only a permit, significantly exceeded the speed limit with a minor passenger in tow and without wearing a seatbelt.
The Sheriff's Office revealed that the teenager faced six separate charges, among them were speeding, reckless driving, and operating a vehicle without a valid driver's license. The number of infractions amassed a staggering 30 points against the teen's license and necessitated a mandatory court appearance. The gravity of this incident is reflected in the sheriff's office's stern warning: "Kids, please let this be a lesson. It's never worth it.”
It wasn't merely the speed that caught the deputy's attention but also, the string of violations that came with it. The driver failed to present evidence of insurance and violated restrictions on a driver's license. Each of these offenses contributes to the picture of youth taking dangerous liberties on the road at the expense of their safety and that of others.
