The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office has launched an investigation following the grim discovery of a deceased person in a pond southeast of Fayetteville. According to CBS 17, the body was found yesterday afternoon in the 4000 block of Gainey Road, not far from where the tranquil waters of the Cape Fear River meander.
Upon receiving a 911 call, deputies arrived at the scene shortly after 2:30 p.m. and pronounced the victim deceased. At the time of reporting, the authorities had cordoned off the area with crime scene tape and first responders were present, as ABC11 further detailed.
The identity of the individual, as well as the cause or manner of death, remains undisclosed at this juncture. The Sheriff's Office has appealed to the public for information related to the incident.
