Portland International Airport has introduced CLEAR, a biometric identity verification service, to help travelers skip the regular security line. By using their eyes or fingerprints for quick identity checks, passengers can move through security faster and avoid the hassle of searching for their ID, according to KOIN.

Portland International Airport, which underwent a significant renovation last summer, has been inundated with questions about the inclusion of CLEAR, and according to Dan Pippenger, the Chief Aviation Officer at Port of Portland, travelers are now receiving the sought-after service. The CLEAR system currently operates across 59 U.S. airports and boasts over 27 million members. Not only does the launch promise to simplify the security process for travelers, but it's also expected to create local jobs and generate economic activity, with an estimated $3 million funneled annually into the community.

Technology and convenience converge at Portland International Airport, where passengers can register for CLEAR Plus membership, costing just over $16 per month, with discounted rates available for various groups, including active military, veterans, and government officials. Families can add adults to their account for an additional fee. After enrollment, a CLEAR Ambassador escorts members directly to TSA physical security, bypassing the traditional lines, as reported by the KATU.

In a statement obtained by KOIN, the technology is not only set to enhance individual experiences but align with local policies as well. Andrew Hoan, the President of the Portland Metro Chamber, expressed enthusiasm for the balance the service provides, stating, "Technology should make life easier for all, and CLEAR’s approach at PDX reflects that balance enhancing the traveler experience while respecting local policies and the rights of the public." The sentiment echoes CLEAR's commitment to a user-centric and secure service.

About the economic and social commitments by CLEAR and Portland International Airport, the Port of Portland, which manages three airports, four marine terminals, and five business parks, positions itself as a catalyst for regional transformation. Their goal includes expanding opportunities and reducing barriers for underserved communities, details shared in a press release from CLEAR. CLEAR's CEO, Caryn Seidman-Becker, reflected this vision, stating, "We're thrilled to bring CLEAR to Portland and help PDX travelers experience a smoother, more predictable journey."
