Heads up, Boulder residents: if you've been feeling the squeeze on your grocery budget, the City of Boulder hasn't forgotten about you. Starting April 15, low-income individuals and families can apply for a Food Tax Rebate (FTR) that'll put a little bit of cash back in their pockets. This isn't a new gig, Boulder has been running this program since '67, aiming to ease the financial strain of local sales tax on food essentials for those who need it most.
Things are a bit different this year, though. The City Council recently gave the green light to tidy up the FTR process, which means they're looking to quickly get those rebates out after you apply. We're talking about $106 for individuals and a generous $325 for families. To get this rebate, you've got to fit into one of these boxes: be 62 or older, have a disability, or have kids under 18 at home for all of 2024. Plus, you need to have called Boulder home for that whole year. The city's even reaching out to folks without permanent shelter, if you're in that camp and can show you're getting help from a city-recognized homelessness agency, you're still in the game.
Circle April 15 on your calendar, because that's when you can start to submit your paperwork. The deadline's June 30, so don't sleep on it. Good news for folks who applied last year, you'll be getting an application in the mail without having to lift a finger. Starting April 15, city staff will be standing by to help anyone needing assistance with the application process, according to the City of Boulder.
