Boulder City's charm hinges on its historic and quaint downtown area, but the aging electrical infrastructure is a growing concern among locals and prospective business owners. In response, the city is launching the Nevada Way 12kV Extension project this month. According to the City of Boulder City officials, the overhaul targets a swath of Nevada Way from Elm Street to 5th Street, aiming to enhance energy efficiency and attract new business investments.

Starting in early February, Boulder's downtown traffic will be occasionally rerouted as the project unfolds, with segments between Elm and 5th Street affected. Acting City Manager Michael Mays noted in a statement obtained by the City of Boulder City officials that the project, funded by the Boulder City Redevelopment Fund, intends to "make vacant and older properties more attractive for redevelopment, without impacting property taxes for residents." Despite the roadwork, officials have assured that no major events in Boulder City this spring will face disruption from the improvements.

The project, earmarked for completion by June 6, will mostly take over sidewalks while employing large equipment necessitating temporary traffic adjustments. Traffic control measures designed to maintain ADA access and minimize inconvenience to pedestrians will be implemented, redirecting foot traffic to the opposite side of the undergoing work.

Construction duties have been granted to Acme Underground Inc., which will manage trenching and the establishment of conduits, underground vaults, and concrete pads for a contract sum of $821,817.00. Once Acme's groundwork is laid out, the City of Boulder City Electric Division will step in to fit the electrical equipment, rounding the project's total expense to $1,438,616.00.
