February is Black History Month, and Boulder is not sitting this one out. A variety of events are taking place across the city both to celebrate and to reflect on the contributions and history of Black individuals. From art exhibitions to dance performances, there's a tangible sense of the community's commitment to honoring this important month.
The NoBo Art District is at the forefront with two notable exhibits that tie past and present while looking ahead. "The Space Between Us (The Black and White of It)" at the Bus Stop Gallery and "Black Future in Art: The Space Between Us" at the NoBo Art Center propose visions of shared spaces reimagined. These exhibitions are not just about viewing art, they are accompanied by community dialogues facilitated by Adderly Grant, according to the City of Boulder.
For those seeking a live performance, the NAACP Boulder County is presenting an evening to remember with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble. This event will take place on February 16th at the Macky Auditorium at CU Boulder. Attendance is free with registration, and while donations are welcome, they're not required, just RSVP via the NAACP Boulder County website. If you're an educator looking to get creative, there's even a free painting workshop appropriately titled 'FACE IT!' on Feb. 8 at Second Baptist Church-Boulder.
