Boulder Fire-Rescue is set to start their monthly Hands-Only CPR classes on February 27, as part of a mission to empower Boulder residents to effectively respond to cardiac emergencies. As detailed by the City of Boulder, these trainings aim to capitalize on the crucial minutes before first responders arrive on the scene. The community is urged to sign up promptly, as the class size is limited to 14 participants, and slots through June are expected to quickly fill up.
Cardiac arrest, a leading cause of death, hinges on immediate intervention, and Hands-Only CPR is a technique individuals can utilize to possibly double or even triple a person’s chance of survival after cardiac arrest. The training sessions are scheduled at Boulder Fire-Rescue Station 3 from 4-6:30 p.m. To frequently boost awareness and participation, Boulder Fire-Rescue, along with allied health partners, are encouraging adults 18 and over to actively sign up.
Jenna Steege, the EMS Division Chief for Boulder Fire-Rescue, emphasized the significance of community CPR, stating, "I’ve seen firsthand that community CPR saves lives," as obtained by the City of Boulder. "In a cardiac emergency, every second matters. When bystanders step in and perform CPR before a paramedic arrives, they can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. The more people that are trained, the more lives we can save together."
