The decade-long mystery surrounding the fatal shooting of Calvin Wilhite Jr. has finally reached a resolution, as the Memphis Police Department announced a significant breakthrough in the cold case. According to a social media post from the department, an arrest has been made in connection with the homicide that occurred on the corner of South Fourth Street and Dr. MLK Jr. Avenue back in May of 2015.
In the early hours of May 24, 2015, Memphis police were dispatched to the scene of a shooting where they found Wilhite suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to Regional One Hospital, Wilhite succumbed to his injuries. The subsequent investigation languished, with the perpetrator eluding capture for nearly ten years until a break in the case finally led to an arrest yesterday.
The suspect, identified as Timothy Davis, has been charged with Second Degree Murder for his alleged involvement in the death of Wilhite. The arrest concludes a long pursuit of justice by Wilhite's family and Memphis police. Officials did not explain what led to the breakthrough or how Davis became a suspect but emphasized the thorough investigation that identified him.
