A Bronx man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after a violent attack on his ex-girlfriend and another man. District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced that Marlon Edwards, 49, received the sentence on Tuesday after pleading guilty to Attempted Murder in the second degree, as stated in a press release from the Bronx District Attorney's Office.
The attack occurred on July 2, 2021, in an apartment near Barnes Avenue and East 223rd Street. Edwards’ ex-girlfriend was babysitting five children when Edwards forced his way in and shot her in the chest, leaving her paralyzed. A 44-year-old man, who was picking up his daughter, was also shot in the shoulder during an attempt to disarm Edwards. A 9-year-old girl bravely called the police after witnessing the attack.
After the attack, police and medical personnel responded to the scene. Edwards fled to Florida but was arrested for an unrelated incident and extradited back to New York in September 2022.
Assistant District Attorney Sharlene Disla, Supervisor in the Domestic Violence Bureau, led the prosecution, with support from Deputy Chief Jenna Rizzo, Chief Joseph Muroff, and others.
