In a recent court ruling, Brooklyn man Terrence Reece, 32, received a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the murder of a livery cab driver in East New York. Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Eugene Guarino imposed the sentence after Reece's conviction of first-degree murder on January 31. The case hinged on the July 26, 2019, incident where Reece argued over cab fare, directed the driver to a secluded location, and then shot him twice in the head, as reported by the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.

The victim, identified as Noman Saleemi, 29, was reportedly forced out of his vehicle and onto his knees before the fatal shots were delivered. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez commented on the gravity of the crime stating, “The victim in this case was a dedicated son and brother who worked overnight shifts to earn extra money. His life was destroyed when this defendant cruelly and needlessly executed him while trying to rob him. My thoughts are with his heartbroken family and friends. I remain committed to keeping people safe from violence such as this, which devastates so many lives,” as per the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.

According to the District Attorney's office, evidence showed that after the execution-style killing, Reece took Saleemi’s wallet containing less than $100 and fled in the victim's car to his wife's residence. There, he enlisted her help to dispose of the murder weapon. The vehicle was later found outside the wife’s residence with Saleemi's DNA and a latent print in the driver’s area. Reece was arrested on August 16, 2019, after a comprehensive investigation led authorities to him.

The prosecution efforts were led by Assistant District Attorneys Christopher Mirabella, of the District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau, and Jourdan Thompson, of the Special Victims Bureau, and overseen by Assistant District Attorney Leila Rosini, Homicide Bureau Chief. The DA's office also expressed gratitude towards Homicide Paralegals John Homnick and Suleimy Santos for their part in the process.
