As reported on February 9th, Brooklyn Park residents are being reminded to set out their recycling bins early. Collection crews will begin their rounds promptly at 6:30 a.m. and work until 6:00 p.m. According to the city's announcement, bins should be placed at least three feet from obstructions, including other carts and mailboxes, and positioned with the handle facing the street. To ensure proper sorting, residents should place materials loose in the cart rather than in bags, as plastic bags will be discarded, and paper bags can cause jams during compaction.

The city is also looking to reduce wastage by promoting organic waste recycling – seemingly an effort to tackle the vast amount of food scraps and non-recyclable paper that end up in landfills. The same city bulletin encourages citizens to sign up for organics recycling online. Starting March 31, a new phase in the recycling program is set to begin, intending to collect organics right from the curbside comprehensively.

This organic recycling expansion comes at a crucial moment. By introducing a separate cart for organics, the city aims to make composting more accessible to residents. Those interested in this service should visit the city's website and sign up as soon as possible.
