Greenpoint is hosting an all-gender beauty pageant on February 27 at Princess Manor, organized by the Brooklyn Community Kitchen (BCK). The charity event aims to broaden the definition of beauty while raising funds for BCK, which has been providing meals from surplus food for over 30 years, as reported by Gothamist.
Cassidy Andrews, Executive Director of BCK, told Gothamist that they have expanded to offer a "meals on wheels" service, ensuring nutritious meals are available for those in need in Greenpoint. Thomas Tomczak, a long-time volunteer with BCK, explained the pageant's structure, which will include an introduction, a talent show, a formalwear segment, a Q&A portion, and judges' deliberation. Simone Tetteh, co-organizer and volunteer, added that the pageant encourages contestants to define their own style for "formalwear."
The pageant is open to all individuals over 18 and aims to reflect the diversity of Greenpoint's community. Organizers told Gothamist that the high number of participants has made the selection process for the final 12 contestants competitive. The judging panel will include local celebrities, such as comedians and drag queens.
Those interested in attending or participating can reach out via Instagram at @bckpageant or complete a form by Thursday next week, as shared by Greenpointers. Spectator tickets are also available.
