Charlotte residents woke up to a chilly February morning with scattered snow showers and a blanket of overcast skies. As the day progresses, the clouds are expected to gradually clear up with highs peaking at a cool 38 degrees Fahrenheit. Light winds from the north will grow stronger, potentially reaching gusts of up to 30 mph and bringing the wind chill down to a biting 23 degrees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Despite the rough start, less than a half inch of snow is projected to accumulate during this brief flurry of winter weather. However, the NWS cautions commuters to be wary of slippery and snow-covered roads, which could unquestionably impact the morning rush. The NWS advisory extends a Winter Weather Advisory until noon today across the foothills, Piedmont, and western regions of North Carolina.
As nighttime falls, Charlotte can expect clearer skies with lows dropping to around 19 degrees. The following days promise more sun with a steady climb in temperatures, anticipating a high near 45 on Friday and reaching up to 67 by next Tuesday. Winds should remain calm, offering a respite from the blustery conditions experienced today.
During this time, the National Weather Service has called on residents to "slow down and use caution while traveling," with suggestions to stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or to check weather.gov for updated forecasts and road conditions.
