In a notable development within the City of Phoenix's managerial framework, Inger Erickson has been named the new temporary Assistant City Manager. Bringing a wealth of experience to the table, Erickson's appointment is effective immediately and she will serve in this capacity through December 2025, according to an official statement from the city.

Erickson, a long-time public servant for the Phoenix community, began her career in 1986 as a lifeguard and has since climbed the echelons of the city's organization. Over the past five years, she has held the role of Deputy City Manager. "I'm pleased to appoint Inger Erickson as temporary Assistant City Manager," City Manager Jeff Barton remarked. "Inger's resume is a testament to what is possible at the City of Phoenix. Her dedication to public service and passion for serving our community has driven her, whether as a lifeguard or an executive. I look forward to her continued contributions in this role," the city announced.

Erickson is known within the municipality for her leadership qualities, her collaborative approach with non-profits, academic institutions, and professional sports teams alike. Notably, she has contributed significantly to the improvement of city programs, assets, and facilities. Her career trajectory within the City of Phoenix has included various executive positions such as Assistant Director and Director of the Parks and Recreation Department.

In her previous position as Deputy City Manager, Erickson had oversight over a wide array of departments and initiatives spanning from Arts and Culture to Street Transportation. These diverse responsibilities under her watch have presumably equipped her with the holistic perspective desirable for an Assistant City Manager. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Grand Canyon University and a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. The city will be kicking off an internal recruitment process to fill the now vacant Deputy City Manager position, and will later initiate the search for a permanent replacement for the Assistant City Manager toward the end of the year.
