In the wake of nation-wide layoffs that have seen Colorado's federal civilian workforce thinning, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) has announced a partnership with the Statewide Workforce System to assist those affected. "The State of Colorado is prepared to support Coloradans impacted by federal job cuts," said Governor Jared Polis, as obtained by Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. This move reflects an acknowledgement from state officials that even in economies perceived as robust, the unforeseen can rapidly alter the landscape of employment.
As detailed by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, a variety of resources are now available to those federal employees facing joblessness. These resources include information on filing for unemployment insurance and the required steps to maintain benefit eligibility. However, those with continuing payments from federal employers, owing to resignation, must report this income, which might affect their qualification for unemployment benefits. "CDLE is committed to supporting individuals with a variety of workforce development support to ensure all Coloradans can continue to thrive and prosper," Joe Barela, the CDLE Executive Director, told the media.
The support extends beyond mere financial assistance. CDLE encourages former federal workers to utilize the Statewide Workforce System for assistance with job searches, resume development, and interviews. Also, with Connecting Colorado listing over 60,000 job openings and the State of Colorado with nearly 500 open positions, there are plentiful opportunities for displaced workers to explore.
For those eligible for unemployment benefits, it's important to note that there is a mandatory one-week waiting period before claims can be activated, with filing not permissible before an individual’s last day of work. "Most of the claim process can be handled through MyUI+, which now has a claim status tracker for claimants to monitor the status of their claim," according to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. Detailed guides and resources are provided to navigate the intricacies of the Unemployment Insurance system.
