A Corpus Christi man, 34-year-old Valentine Cancino, has pleaded guilty to producing child sexual abuse material. He admitted to creating a video involving sexual activities with a minor family member. U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei announced the guilty plea, with sentencing set for June 4.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, authorities began investigating Cancino after receiving multiple cyber-tips about child pornography being uploaded online. A search warrant was executed on January 30, 2024, at his home, leading to the seizure of two electronic devices, including a Samsung Galaxy phone containing the video. Cancino faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. This effort coordinates federal, state, and local resources to capture perpetrators and assist victims. For more information, the DOJ's PSC page provides resources and education on internet safety.
The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations and the Corpus Christi Police Department, with prosecution by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Overman. Cancino remains in custody pending sentencing.
