On the solemn anniversary of a tragedy, the Dallas Police Department took a moment on social media to remember one of their own. Officer Mitchell Aaron Penton, who was just at the age of 27 when his life was taken, was honored in a post marking the memory of his service and the catastrophic night that claimed his existence.

The tragic incident occurred on February 13, 2021, when Officer Penton was performing his duty at a car crash scene. It was there that an irresponsible driver, under the influence and moving rapidly, collided with his patrol car. The force of the impact subsequently thrust the patrol vehicle into Officer Penton.

Despite swift transport to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, a devastating blow to all who knew him and represents the dangers law enforcement faces every day. Officer Penton dedicated two years to the Dallas Police Department and is survived by his expectant wife and stepson.
