In the city manager's own words, "This search process is a pivotal step" in elevating the DFR, aimed at a candidate who is results-driven and excels in team building, community engagement, and streamlined operations, and Tolbert anticipates fulfilling both the fire and police chief positions by early Spring, an endeavor she cites as part of her "100-Day plan, Building on Our Momentum: The Journey Forward," which is a commitment she made looking forward and Dallas aspires to become a globally recognized city henceforth the need for visionary leadership, as per the City of Dallas.

As the search ensues, Public Sector Search & Consulting, Inc. (PSSC) has been chosen to oversee the recruitment efforts for DFR and the Dallas Police Department, bringing an exclusive focus on public safety leadership to the table. Chief Dominique Artis, the city's Chief of Public Safety, expressed confidence, stating, "DFR plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of Dallas residents" and that the search is expected to introduce a "strong, responsive and qualified candidate" to take on the fire chief mantle, as cited by the City of Dallas.

Justin Ball, who has been serving as the Interim Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief since June 2024, stepped in following Chief Artis' elevation to Chief of Public Safety, while City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert administered Artis' permanent placement in January, thus opening the floor for new leadership within DFR as the new permanent Chief starts to fill in the footsteps left earlier by his predecessors and set off on the path overarching public safety in Dallas.
