Motorists in Orlando and surrounding coastal counties were advised to exercise caution early this morning due to areas of dense fog present along the coast and across portions of the interior, according to the National Weather Service Melbourne, FL. The weather bulletin, issued at 628 AM EST on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, included a Dense Fog Advisory for Brevard, Orange, Seminole, and coastal Volusia counties, warning of possible visibility reductions to as low as one-quarter of a mile in spots. Commuters were reminded to slow down, use only low-beam headlights, and leave plenty of following distance between vehicles.
While the advisory was set to improve by late morning, the National Weather Service anticipates that the lingering stratus may linger into the afternoon hours. A weak area of high pressure is expected to keep conditions mostly dry, warming temperatures quickly into the low to mid-80s. The weather pattern is poised to persist, with the potential for dense fog to continue each night and early morning through late week, signaling a repeated concern for road visibility and an increased need for diligent driving habits.
The National Weather Service reported that the forecast for the upcoming days stretches from Thursday to next Tuesday. A weak high pressure remains stationed across the western Atlantic. This pattern is set to imbue the region with above-average temperatures, reaching the upper 70s to mid-80s. Rain chances will stay below 10 percent until a stalling cold front possibly causes a slight increase early next week.
Boaters also need to take heed as the high-pressure system affects marine conditions. Winds are forecast to remain light and variable today, with sea fog being the primary issue. A dense fog advisory remains in place today, with visibility reductions of one nautical mile or less across parts of Volusia and nearshore Brevard waters. Boaters should persist in vigilance since sea fog is expected to continue to be possible through the end of the week and into the weekend, especially during the evening and morning hours.
Regarding aviation, the NWS forecasts IFR/LIFR conditions from TIX southward, including OBE, with fog anticipated to linger until approximately 15Z before clearing. Southerly winds are on the agenda for today, shifting to easterly along the coast in the afternoon. Pilots and passengers should also stay updated on conditions as "fog development once again after 3Z along the coast" is forecasted for some areas, particularly for DAB.
