
Denton County Emergency Services District #1 recently celebrated its personnel's hard work and dedication with an annual banquet. According to a social media post by the department, the event recognized members across various categories for their exemplary services in 2024. Hailey Skinner was honored as Volunteer of the Year, while Eric Angeles won the Part-Timer of the Year award. Gustavo Rubio, Jr. was recognized as Rookie of the Year, further highlighting the organization's depth of talent and commitment.
The Firefighter of the Year accolade was awarded to Riley Trevino, while Juliano Winfree was named EMT of the Year, and AJ Atkinson took the Paramedic of the Year title. BJ McGee was honored as Driver/Engineer of the Year, and Dustin Trousdale was recognized as Officer of the Year. The department also bestowed special recognitions, including the Chief’s Award to Joshua Esquivel and the Heart Award to Andrew Crudgington. To fully celebrate their achievements, neighboring departments, including Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department, Flower Mound Fire Department, and City of Denton Fire Department, provided coverage to allow all personnel to attend the event.
Life-saving actions were also acknowledged during this gathering. A team comprising Stephen Forrest, Michael Vo, Jeremy Arrington, Gustavo Rubio, Jr., Cael Perkins, Bryce Fulton, and Wes Borchardt received the Lifesaving Award on December 14, 2024. Another incident on August 23, 2024, led to a Unit Citation for Brady Beard, Patrick Nuoci, and several colleagues, including BJ McGee and Gustavo Rubio, Jr., again, a testament to their continuous outstanding service.
Milestones for years of service were celebrated, with Kenny Cherry, Andrew Chonody, and others receiving recognition for five years. Jared Wells was acknowledged for 10 years and Brady Beard for 15. The Honor Guard at the banquet comprised individuals like Andrew Crudgington and Tyler Marshall, with Peter Malik performing the anthem. The ceremony occurred at Robson Ranch, with the venue and decorations contributed by local businesses and volunteers, including Meredith McInnis and Mackenzie Cherrett.
