Detroit has opened warming centers and respite locations in response to extreme cold and snow. City officials have prepared two overnight respite centers to provide temporary shelter for those in need, according to the City of Detroit.

The Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries on Woodward Ave. is open on Wednesday at 11 a.m. until Februay 18, at 11 a.m. The Pope Francis Center on W. Hancock is open on Sunday, at 6 p.m. until Februay 18. No referral is required, and assistance is available through the 24/7 Cold Weather Line via the Detroit Housing Resource HelpLine. Recreation centers and public libraries provide daytime warmth during regular hours, except on Presidents Day for libraries. After 6 p.m., Detroit Police Precincts can connect individuals with outreach teams for overnight services. More information is available at detroitmi.gov/recreation and detroitpubliclibrary.org, as reported by the City of Detroit.

Access is managed through the Coordinated Assessment Model via the Detroit Housing Resource Services Helpline or in-person at Cass Community Services and the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. The Detroit Housing Services has placed over 3,300 residents in permanent housing and offers assistance with housing, moving expenses, employment, and property issues. The Housing Resource Helpline provides support for those experiencing homelessness or housing instability, as stated by the City of Detroit.
