
Detroit recently opened two new affordable housing developments, the Brush Park Apartments and MLK on 2nd, adding 86 units to the city's housing market. The projects, with a combined budget of over $30 million, were developed through collaboration between Mayor Mike Duggan, City Council President Mary Sheffield, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist, CVS Health, and MHT Housing Inc. These developments aim to provide affordable housing in desirable neighborhoods in Detroit, according to the City of Detroit.
Brush Park includes 53 units and 3,800 square feet of commercial space, with a cost of $19 million. MLK on 2nd has 33 units and commercial space, totaling $11.5 million. Both projects offer housing for individuals earning up to 60% of the area median income and moderate options for those earning up to 80% area median income, as reported by the City of Detroit.
The financing of Detroit's infrastructure involved multiple partners, including Bedrock, Fifth Third Bank, and CVS Health. Fifth Third Bank's regional President, David Girodat, emphasized the investment's focus on revitalizing communities. Teressa Smith of Aetna Better Health of Michigan, a CVS Health company, discussed CVS's initiative to support community well-being through investments in healthcare, education, and housing, with a focus on areas near CVS Health's Workforce Innovation and Talent Center, as stated by the City of Detroit.
