Heads up, Doña Ana County residents, your chance to influence the future of roadway safety is rolling out. According to Doña Ana County, the county's staff will present findings from a study into the safety of your roads, and they're eager to hear your thoughts. This meeting with the Board of Commissioners is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 in the Commission Chambers at the Government Center.
After an intense year of work, drawing insights from hundreds of residents and pouring over danger zones flagged by the community, they've crafted the Comprehensive Roadway Safety Action Plan. This plan, aiming to slash the rate of fatalities and severe injuries, isn't just a neatly stacked set of strategies, it's also the county's ticket to potentially bag funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation's SS4A Grant Program to bring these safety upgrades to life.
Right after this engaging session, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and again from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., you can catch representatives from Toole Design and Bohannan Huston Inc., the brains behind the roadway study camping out in the Government Center’s Rotunda. They'll be doling out details from the Safety Action Plan, brainstorming improvements, and fielding any questions that have you scratching your head. And for those tied up with work or studies, don't sweat it, the team is setting up shop at New Mexico State University’s Corbett Center as well, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12.
Whether you're on foot, behind the wheel, or bicycling your way through the county, your two cents could make a difference in how safe your journey is, so spare a moment, swing by one of these booths, and let's tackle the road ahead together.
