The City of Dunwoody has earned the Tree City USA title for the 13th consecutive year. This honor, awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, recognizes cities that meet high standards of urban forest management, as per the City of Dunwoody release.

To celebrate this achievement and the upcoming Georgia Arbor Day, Dunwoody will host a tree planting ceremony on Friday next week at 11 a.m. at the Brook Run Arboretum Pavilion. City representatives, local residents, the Dunwoody City Council, and the Parks & Recreation department will participate in the event.

Dunwoody Arborist Amy Bledsoe highlighted the importance of trees, saying, "Trees provide immense benefits to our community - improving air quality, increasing property values, reducing stress, and creating habitats for wildlife," in the same release. As a Tree City USA community, Dunwoody experiences the benefits of a healthy urban forest. Dan Lambe, CEO of the Arbor Day Foundation, acknowledged these efforts, stating that "Tree City USA communities experience firsthand the benefits of a thriving urban forest."

In partnership with Trees Atlanta, the city has planted over 2,000 trees since 2013, including 100 during this year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. The Front Yard Tree Planting Program also offers free shade tree plantings to residents for a third year.

Dunwoody celebrates Arbor Day on the third Friday of February, taking advantage of Georgia's winter planting season. The tree planting ceremony at the Brook Run Arboretum Pavilion on Friday next week will foster continued environmental awareness and action in the community.
