Vinton Steel, a subsidiary of Osaka-based Kyoei Steel LTD, is expanding its operations in El Paso County with an investment of over $229 million. The project is expected to create more than 180 new jobs and is part of the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation program. Governor Greg Abbott announced the expansion at a press conference at Vinton Steel in Vinton, Texas, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.

Vinton Steel is expanding its operations in El Paso County with a new facility that includes two electric arc furnaces and a continuous casting and rolling mill, designed to recycle over 250,000 tons of ferrous scrap each year. The project is supported by a $1,504,000 Texas Enterprise Fund grant and a $12,000 veteran job bonus. Governor Abbott said, "Vinton Steel is making a Texas-sized investment in the future of El Paso County and is an important part in the stronger, more prosperous Texas we are building." Senator César J. Blanco added, "This investment is more than just an expansion—it’s a commitment to the hardworking people of El Paso and West Texas," as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.

The company’s Chairman and Kyoei Steel America, LLC President Masahiro Kitada stated, "we are not just expanding our capacity but are also leading the charge towards sustainability with our state-of-the art new green steel-making process." The construction phase, from 2025 to 2027, is expected to generate $451,684 in county tax revenue and $2.2 million for the state. Borderplex Alliance CEO Jon Barela said, "I want to extend my gratitude to Senator César Blanco and Representative Joe Moody for their support, as well as a special thanks to Governor Abbott and his Economic Development & Tourism Office for their instrumental role in this project," as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
