In a sobering update from El Paso, the city has recorded its 6th traffic fatality of the year following a tragic accident earlier this month. A collision on February 2nd, which took place at the 6200 block of Railroad, involved a single vehicle, a Ford Expedition, that veered off the road and rolled over. As reported by the El Paso Police Department, neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt, resulting in both being ejected from the vehicle.
The incident has been under investigation by the El Paso Police Department's Special Traffic Investigations unit. It was determined that the driver, who was northbound on the Railroad, lost control before the vehicle rolled over. Both the driver and the passenger were quickly transported to a nearby hospital to treat serious injuries sustained in the crash. Sadly, on Friday, the driver succumbed to their injuries. Alcohol has been identified as a contributing factor in the collision.
This recent fatality brings new attention to traffic safety and the impactful consequences of driving under the influence. The city mourns as it compares these figures to the previous year's, noting that at the same time in 2024, there had been 8 traffic fatalities.
