Residents of White Marsh were abruptly awakened last night when a fire ravaged a home on Lawrence Hill Road. The White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company responded to the blaze, which had fully engulfed the house, reported NottinghamMD. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m., bringing the community a chaotic start to the morning.
According to eyewitness accounts, the sound of an explosion was mistaken for a car crash. "Well, I heard an explosion. Now, I don’t know if the fire was hitting something, but I heard an explosion and all the fire come out," James McCray, a nearby neighbor, stated, according to WMAR-2 News. “Then, the windows got blown out and everything by the fire,” he added, painting a vivid picture of the disturbance the fire caused in the tranquil suburb.
Despite the ferocity of the flame, the family residing in the affected home could escape safely. The husband, his ailing wife, and their son all managed to evacuate before the fire could claim more than their home. McCray noted to WMAR-2 News that despite health concerns, the wife was "okay" after the incident, having found refuge at a neighbor's house.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing, with no definitive cause identified thus far.
