The Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported the incident occurred on Sanderson Avenue, south of Ramona Boulevard, at approximately 6:46 a.m. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the crash involved multiple northbound vehicles before one of the vehicles, driven by 36-year-old Travis Maze of Hemet, was sent spinning into oncoming traffic and was struck by a southbound vehicle.

Maze was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The other involved drivers sustained moderate injuries and were promptly transported to a local hospital, as detailed by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. The traffic team from the San Jacinto Station took over the investigation, which they say is still in its preliminary stages. At the time, no further details regarding the cause of the collision have been divulged.

The aftermath of the accident led to a temporary road closure on Sanderson Avenue between Cottonwood Avenue and Ramona Boulevard, as per the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
