Whitney Goins, a former employee of the Union County Clerk's Office, is facing new charges in an ongoing investigation. The 38-year-old from Maynardville has been indicted on one count of theft over $10,000 and two counts of official misconduct. These charges are in addition to a previous case where she was accused of fraudulent use of a credit card and official misconduct, as reported by WATE.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began investigating in November 2024 after the state attorney general reported theft allegations. "During the investigation, agents learned that Goins, while employed at the Union County Clerk’s Office, made fraudulent charges to the banking accounts of two private citizens," the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation stated. Goins had already been charged in September 2024 for a separate incident at the same office, where she allegedly obtained and fraudulently used another person’s credit card.
Goins was arrested on Wednesday after the Union County Grand Jury returned indictments, and her bond was set at $100,000. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed the arrest and stated that the charges are accusations, with Goins presumed innocent until proven guilty. She was fired from the Union County Clerk's Office in August 2024, as per WBIR. The investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
