A Fresno man faces federal charges following an incident involving a minor at a Veterans Affairs facility in Central California. Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith revealed that a federal grand jury indicted 65-year-old Daryl Vinson on three counts, including assault and abusive sexual contact with a minor.
On July 23, 2024, Vinson allegedly engaged in the wrongful act by touching the minor's breast and committing further unwanted contact, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The Veterans Affairs Central California Health Care System in Fresno was the setting for this incident, where Vinson is confirmed to not be an employee. With the charges laid before him, the accused faces the prospect of up to two years in prison and a potential $250,000 fine.
The investigation, a joint effort by the Department of Veterans Affairs Police and the Office of Inspector General, led to the indictment of Vinson. Assistant U.S. Attorney Arin C. Heinz is taking the lead on prosecuting the case. Any sentencing, should there be a conviction, will consider statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which vary based on numerous variables.
Vinson has been charged, but it is important to note that these are allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty, as per the justice system. Authorities are asking the community to come forward with any information related to the case or for those who believe they may be victims to submit a tip online or by calling 1-800-488-8244.
