The Georgia Department of Corrections has announced a key promotion at one of its residential treatment centers. Scott Keith, the current Assistant Superintendent at the Northwest Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Center (RSAT), is set to become the Superintendent effective March 1. Keith will take charge of the facility's staff and the supervision of around 200 male detainees, marking a significant step in his corrections career which spans two decades.
According to an announcement by GDC Commissioner Tyrone Oliver, "Scott has worked his way up through the ranks during his 20-year tenure with the department." Praising Keith's upward trajectory, Oliver is optimistic about his future contributions, "We look forward to his continued leadership in carrying out our mission at Northwest RSAT." Keith's journey with GDC began in 2010 when he joined as a Correctional Officer at Walker State Prison.
Keith's qualifications for the Superintendent position are backed by a thorough training regimen. As reported by the Georgia Department of Corrections, his training includes courses such as Basic Correctional Officer Training, Sergeants Academy, and various levels of supervision and management. The specialized training prepares candidates like Keith for the multifaceted challenges encountered within the corrections system. His most recent position as Assistant Superintendent at Northwest RSAT has set the groundwork for his new leadership role.
Over Keith's lengthy tenure with the GDC, starting at Walker State Prison, he has steadily moved up from a Correctional Officer to positions of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. In 2022, he received his promotion to Assistant Superintendent at the Northwest RSAT. This progression within the department displays a consistent pattern of commitment and capacity for increased responsibility on Keith’s part.
In his upcoming role, Keith will not only manage the detention facility's staff but also oversee and contribute to the rehabilitation of the detainees under his care. The promotion underscores GDC's focus on internal talent development and recognition of dedication within the ranks. With a broad base of training and experience, Keith is poised to lead the residential treatment center towards meeting its goals and continuing the mission of the Georgia Department of Corrections.
