Senator Nan Orrock, along with Representative Anne Allen Westbrook, is set to announce new legislation targeting the funding of anti-abortion centers in Georgia. In a press conference scheduled for today at the Georgia State Capitol, they will present their case against these centers, which are accused of disseminating misleading health information to pregnant individuals. According to a press release on Senate Press, the event is open to the public, with a start time of 12:30 p.m.
"Georgians have a right to understand the full range of pregnancy options and to receive reliable medical information free of political bias," Sen. Orrock outlined in the press release by Senate Press. The senator argues that these anti-abortion clinics not only fail to offer advertised services but also withhold critical, medically approved guidelines from their clients. With Georgia’s maternal mortality rate as one of the highest in the nation, Sen. Orrock insists that correcting this misinformation and reallocating funds is essential for the health of both mothers and their babies.
The Amplify Georgia Collaborative, which aims to broaden reproductive rights, will join Sen. Orrock and Rep. Westbrook at the conference. Their goal is to steer state funding towards comprehensive health services and away from anti-abortion centers that they allege to be politically motivated rather than medically effective. The collaborative has been particularly vocal about the need for accurate healthcare information, which is fundamental for making informed decisions.
Media interested in attending the press event are encouraged to RSVP by reaching out to Jantz Womack, with Senate Press Inquiries. The location specified for the gathering is on the south steps of the Capitol at 206 Washington St., Atlanta, GA 30334.
