Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and her deputy, Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, are literally taking their transport investment pitch on the road. Alongside Transportation Secretary Monica Tibbits-Nutt, the trio is embarking on a tour showcasing their $8 billion plan for sprucing up the state’s transportation framework. According to a press release from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, officials intend to pay visits to MBTA facilities, regional transit authorities, and other significant locales to draw attention to their proposals for overhauling the transport landscape.
"Every day in Massachusetts, millions of residents and visitors rely on our transportation system to get to work, school, doctor’s appointments, the grocery store – everywhere," Governor Healey shared publicly. In the community, she asserted the urgency of refusing to kick the can down the road when building the transportation system that the people of Massachusetts deserve. Lieutenant Governor Driscoll echoed these sentiments, stressing the commitment to ensuring world-class transportation that meets the expectations of safety, reliability, and accessibility, as per the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Secretary Tibbits-Nutt highlighted the expansive nature of the proposed investments, expressing the intention to meet residents during the Transportation Funding Road Show. She anticipates engaging with citizens about the essential role of robust transport systems in their lives, as outlined in the administration's plan. Notably, the mentioned plan earmarks $110 million for Regional Transit Authorities such as the Brockton Area Transportation (BAT), which includes funding for transit improvements, fare-free service, and bettering connections between RTAs.
With BAT serving as a critical hub in the region, Governor Healey, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll, and Secretary Tibbits-Nutt are scheduled to visit the BAT Intermodal Transportation Centre, demonstrating their hands-on approach to transportation reform. While touring the facility, the leaders will express gratitude to the hardworking individuals behind the scenes who, during the visit, will lay out exactly how the extensive overhaul of infrastructure and services aims to improve the lives of residents across the Commonwealth.
