A Grass Valley neighbor finds herself on the wrong side of the law after Nevada County Sheriff's deputies discovered she was in possession of items stolen from a local man's home. Star Louise Lemas, aged 30, was arrested on February 8, with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office citing her possession of stolen property in violation of Penal Code 496(A), as shared in a social media post.
The unfortunate series of events was set in motion when a local man returned to his Brewer Road residence on February 6 after being away and discovered the burglary; his home was broken into and multiple items, including firearms, were taken, in an incident that left the door ajar to uncertainties and an unsettling reminder of the vulnerability that comes in moments unguarded while the community's sense of security finds itself fractured by the invasiveness of a break-in. The case quickly gained traction as deputies conducted a neighborhood canvass, which led them to Lemas and the incriminating items that were in plain view on her property.
Following the canvass, officials acted swiftly with NCSO detectives who obtained a search warrant for Lemas' home on the same day, leading to the recovery of the stolen property, and her subsequent arrest proceeded without further incident. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the burglary investigation remains active and is in the hands of their Major Crimes Unit, which encourages anyone with additional information to come forward by calling (530) 265-1471.
