Two individuals have entered guilty pleas in regard to the lethal shooting that transpired outside a Dairy Queen in the northeast, an incident dating back to August 2023. Kiyaire Blow, 21, has admitted to aggravated murder, coupling his plea with a firearm specification that tallies an additional three years, while Dreyton Lane, 17, has conceded to charges of aggravated robbery and involuntary manslaughter, the latter also tagged with a similar three-year firearm specification clause, as reported by Franklin County Prosecutor's Office.
With sentencing set for May 21, 2025, the prosecuting team and defense counsel have coordinated to suggest incarceration terms spanning 23 years to life for Mr. Blow, and a range of 15 to 19.5 years for Mr. Lane, according to the press release, it was on that fateful afternoon of Aug. 26, 2023, when officers rushed to the Dairy Queen located at the 1500 block of Schrock Road following a shooting alert, an occurrence that culminated in the fatal wounding of 19-year-old Nathaniel Joe-Summerall, and Blow himself later seeking medical attention for gunshot injuries at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.
The ensuing investigation unearthed a trade gone awry, initiated via social media by Blow, intending to barter firearms with the now-deceased Joe-Summerall; the rendezvous was the Dairy Queen parking lot, where Blow joined by Lane, and three other juveniles orchestrated a plot to rob the victim instead of proceeding with the agreed trade and when the interaction devolved into physical confrontation, multiple shots were fired, striking Joe-Summerall multiple times, culminated in his death.
Lane, who did not participate in the exchange of gunfire, did, however, equip himself with a firearm and procured a weapon from Joe-Summerall before absconding the scene eventually throwing away the gun thereafter, five arrests ensued, spanning across the age spectrum from juvenile to young adult, all connected to the grim chain of events outside the popular ice cream spot, further details were provided in the press briefing by the prosecutor's office.
