Hilo's law enforcement acted on a tip Wednesday, leading to the arrest of a man viewed by them as armed and potentially dangerous. Ivan Steve Kong, 46, was taken into custody on Kilauea Avenue for an outstanding warrant. According to Nixle, the Hawaii Paroling Authority issued the warrant due to Kong's alleged violation of parole terms and conditions.
When detectives and deputy sheriffs discovered Kong hiding in a parked car's backseat, they were able to make the arrest without any resistance. A member of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section Crime Reduction Unit, Detective Bryson Pilor, is leading the ongoing probe into Kong's recent criminal activities in Hilo and Puna.
