A tragic event unfolded earlier today in Holly Springs, as a house fire claimed the life of an elderly man and displaced five others. The victim, identified as 75-year-old Frankie Carl Richardson, was unable to escape the blaze that erupted around 3:58 a.m. on the 5600 block of Easton Street, according to CBS 17.
Firefighters reached the burning single-story house to find a heavy blaze. Five family members had managed to exit the home but informed officials that their elderly grandfather was still trapped inside. "Crews made an aggressive attack through the front door and attempted to search and knock the fire down," said Holly Springs Fire Chief LeRoy Smith in a statement obtained by CBS 17. "They were unable to locate the victim on the initial pushed into the fire."
Despite the valiant efforts of the fire crews, Richardson was later found deceased in a part of the home that had been built as an addition, as mentioned by WRAL News. The condition of the house after the inferno was declared a total loss, with significant damage to the roof and siding. The cause of the fire has not been determined, and a multi-agency investigation involving local, state, and federal fire investigators is currently underway.
