
On Wednesday, a call was made about two hikers above the Nuuanu Reservoir at 4:53 p.m. The Honolulu Fire Department dispatched 13 personnel across 5 units to the scene. The hikers were located and rescued by the Honolulu Fire Departmen team.
The hikers were trapped after descending a steep part of the trail and were unable to continue. First responders arrived at 5:09 p.m. and established a zone for air rescue operations. At 5:30 p.m., a helicopter, Air 1, reached the hikers and conducted a medical assessment. The assessment confirmed the hikers sustained minor injuries. The first hiker was airlifted to safety at 5:52 p.m., and the second hiker was airlifted at 6:05 p.m., according to the Honolulu Fire Department.
The Honolulu Fire Department rescued hikers near Nuuanu Reservoir, with all operations concluding by early evening. The Honolulu Fire Department's Air 1 helicopter was deployed due to the rugged terrain. The department frequently uses its helicopter for rescues in the area, as the terrain can pose challenges to hikers. Honolulu Fire Department officials remind hikers to be well-prepared and cautious when venturing into Hawaii's landscapes.
