Residents of the Westwood area breathed a collective sigh of relief as firefighters quickly contained an apartment fire earlier this week. The incident occurred on Tuesday, at around 6:33 p.m. at a residence located at 9450 Woodfair Dr. 77036. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the blaze.

The Houston Fire Department was able to save an estimated $15.5 million in property, while the damage was contained to an estimated $20,000. According to a statement from the fire department, the cause of the fire was unintentional and linked to cooking activities within one of the apartments. This rapid response prevented the situation from escalating into what could have been a disastrously more destructive event, despite the significant number of personnel it took to control the situation.

Upon arrival, firefighters were confronted with smoke emanating from the 2-story apartment building. They acted swiftly to extinguish a fire in the kitchen of a unit and conducted a primary search to ensure no residents were in danger. Crews succeeded in containing the fire and smoke to the unit of origin and used fans to clear the building of smoke. The collective efforts of 42 personnel from Stations 2, 68, 83, 10, 73, 51, and 80 were crucial in managing the emergency.
